Founder of Barstool Sports Dave Portnoy mocked Harvard president Dr. Claudine Gay for her divisive remarks regarding antisemitism by posting images of shirts with the university's insignia labeled "Hamas University."
In addition, he declared that he would not recruit graduates from the University of Pennsylvania, Harvard, or MIT because of the congressional testimony of their presidents.
Portnoy commented subsequently, "At this rate, we're one step away from the Ivy Leagues offering courses on how 9/11 was actually the Jews fault."
I don’t think it will make a big difference, but from now on I won’t accept any incoming students from either of these schools until those Deans resign.
When Gay faced criticism for her equivocal comments about antisemitism during a congressional hearing, Harvard's leadership, including herself, stood up and defended themselves. "Some have confused the right to free speech with the notion that Harvard condones violence against Jewish students," Gay said in a statement. "Let me be crystal clear: Calling for violence or genocidal intent against the Jewish community or any religious and ethnic group is abhorrent, and it has no place at Harvard. Those who threaten Jewish students will not be tolerated and will be held accountable.
"We are committed to free speech, even when it is offensive, offensive, or hateful," Gay said in the hearing. "It is when that speech crosses the line into conduct that is contrary to our anti-bullying policies."
The statement was met with criticism from social media users who called for Gay's resignation.
